During the Cold War, a secret team of superheroes with manipulated and improved DNA was formed: Patriot. The members came from various parts of the Soviet Union, and when that fell apart, they all returned to their own countries. A new threat reunites them. Soviet heroes against a mutant with an army of clones, in this Russian version of X-Men.

It’s been obvious for quite some time now that Russia is taking on the Americans in the area of film production as well. For years the industry has been creating expensive and spectacular action films, often with a patriotic slant. Guardians is no exception – not only is the secret team called Patriot, but with their different nationalities (Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Armenia) the four heroes also represent the idea of the great Russian empire. The foursome take on the bad guy Kuratov, who has an exoskeleton and an army of clones at his disposal. Spectacular action and bombastic Soviet rhetoric guaranteed!
