A number of people are gathered in an ordinary bar. When one of them leaves, he is shot outside. Panic is mixed with distrust: is one of them a terrorist? Then the riot police appear with gas masks. The latest film by Álex de la Iglesia brings his trademark humour, chaos and furious style to an ordinary bar.
Keeping your cool is never a starting point for de la Iglesia and his latest film is another of his fast paced stories with characters permanently on the verge of hysteria and many chaotic situations. But as always, de director digs deeper; the characters represent different layers of Spanish society. Once the riot police arrive and the group is trapped, the differences are cleverly played out, adding some biting social comment to the proceedings. As the film progresses, the tone gets darker and laughter makes way for awkwardness as the struggle for survival brings out the worst in everyone.
