Compulsion (Compulsión)

A young escort agrees to meet her regular in his country house. What seems to be a little one-night fling turns into a waking nightmare. Her only hope lies in her tormentor's girlfriend, who starts her own investigation into her partner's whereabouts. Two female victims, one psycho. Excellent thriller delivers nail-biting suspense on a modest budget and a straightforward premise.

Like a clockwork mechanism, this Spanish thriller successfully cranks up the tension with each scene. The plot may be fairly generic with a male predator going after his two female victims, the writing is extremely disciplined and execution spotless. The editing deserves a special mention, since it enhances the oppressive and visceral feel of the movie. Compulsion shows great talent and surprising degree of creative control for a first time director, who also brings out the best in both female leads. Oh, and it features the best use of a pregnancy test in the film history.

Short: Imbroglio
A prisoner exchange among gangsters gets completely out of hand. Tarantino-inspired orgy of violence with the ever-charismatic Zoë Bell (Death Proof) in a kick-ass role that seems made for her.
