Best of Imagine

On the last day of the festival we programmed  the highest-rated films of Imagine 2016. These are the selected films:

Men and Chicken (10.30-12.15)
After the death of their father, half-brothers Elias and Gabriel go in search of the unknown part of their family. They find out that there are three more half-brothers on the island, all from different mothers. The two are taken in by them and discover a horrifying truth about themselves and the family. The Survivalist (12.35-14.20)
After large parts of the world’s population have been wiped out, a nameless man lives alone on a farm. One day his solitude is disrupted by the arrival of Kathryn and her daughter Milja. What follows is a laborious attempt to coexist in a world where trust has disappeared. |  Buy ticket.

They Call Me Jeeg Robot (14.40-16.30)
 After coming into contact with a radioactive substance, small-time crook Enzo develops superpowers. Alessia, the daughter of a fellow criminal, is convinced that Enzo is the hero of a Japanese anime, Steel Jeeg Robot. Meanwhile, Enzo himself doesn’t really know what to do with his newfound powers. Packed with action, humour, social commentary and romance. Winner of seven David di Donatello Awards. | Buy ticket

De Palma (16.50-18.40)
Two fellow filmmakers actually braved it: asking Brian de Palma about his career, which by now spans about half a century. The result is a chronological journey through De Palma’s oeuvre, with the director himself proving to be an animated and frank conversationalist. A De Palma-fan couldn’t hope for a better masterclass.  | Buy ticket.

The Witch (19.10-20.40)
New England, the 17th century. The fanatical religious beliefs of a father cause him and his family to be ostracised. They must try to survive in the woods and it’s not long before they lose their newborn baby. Was it wolves... or was it a witch? Suspicion lands on their eldest daughter. |  Buy ticket

Creative Control (21.00-22.40)
Smooth advertising executive David is in a relationship with yoga teacher Juliette. Then his eye is caught by Sophie, the girlfriend of his best friend Wim, a fashion photographer. Things get completely out of hand during a campaign for augmented reality-glasses, for which David designs an avatar of the coveted Sophie. Witty and sharp satire on the hipster scene.
